Been There, Done That
{short description of image} This picture taken in March 1998 just after that last monster snowfall, Charlestown Mall is in the forefront.  What is unique about it though is that I was flying the airplane (Cessna 172) it was taken from.
picture of an airplan This is a Cessna 172 which is the same as the airplane I have been avidly taking flying lessons in. I have hope that I will have my pilot's license before this summer is out. Want to go fly with me?

On April 10th, 1998 at about 7:15 PM a very small ceremony took place at the DuPage Airport of significance to me. This ceremony involves the traditional cutting off of the shirt-tails of a student pilot after he sucessfully solos in an airplane for the first time. This picture shows Andy Surratt, my flight instructor, doing the honours.

One more shot of me with Andy congratulating me, now missing the shirt-tail of my shirt which we are holding between us. The writing on the shirt-tail is as follows: Mike Perry, 1st Solo, C172 N734XX, DuPage Airport, 4/10/98, Andrew Surratt, followed by his CFI certificate number and expiration date.

This is N734XX, the airplane that I soloed in. In this picture the owner of the plane is just seconds away from a landing at DuPage airport when I took this picture from the approach end of the runway.
